The Larrakia Cultural Centre, currently under construction and expected to be completed by early 2026, is a two-story facility designed to engage Larrakia family groups, local non-Larrakia residents, and visitors. The building’s design evokes a bird in flight, symbolizing an ancestral being that protects the land and people, which holds significant meaning for the Larrakia people.
Upon completion, the centre will exhibit and showcase the history, culture, and contemporary life of the Larrakia people through artwork, artefacts, and stories, offering a rich cultural, tourism, and dining experience at the Darwin Waterfront.
The centre will include:
- A variety of educational facilities
- Exhibition space and gallery
- Outdoor auditorium
- Café/restaurant
- Art studios
- Artefact storage
- Retail shop
- Function rooms for meetings and events
