A 16-month demolition and construction project, the new Bunnings Store in Yarrawonga, Palmerston was completed during the challenging 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
Managed superbly by the Sunbuild team, the project consisted of the demolition of two existing sheds, the levelling of landscaping and relocation of the ‘Brontosaurus’ also known as ‘Big Kev’ to his new home adjacent to Voyager Trailers.
Post demolition, a five-month construction period commenced. Construction consisted of a two-level structure with 450 carparks on the ground floor. Level one (approx 17,000m2) consisted of a suspended concrete floor, 20 tonne precast walls and structural steel roof members. Within the main retail space 9,000m2 of burnished concrete was also poured over a record two-week period. The building also features four elevators and a travelmaster to facilitate pedestrian movement between levels.
Due to the pandemic, transportation of goods and mobility of staff was a challenge and meant the project timeframe constantly changed, however in true Sunbuild fashion we still managed to deliver within the client’s budget and timeframe. A feat we’re very proud of.
