Sunbuild’s consultative, efficient and reliable reputation ensured they were the construction company of choice for the City of Darwin and the Parap Pool Redevelopment project.
A very specialised project with strict deadlines and challenging conditions, the construction took place during the 3rd largest wet season on record in the Territory. 2m of rainfall proved problematic during construction, however Sunbuild’s multi award winning team, working closely with the City of Darwin found innovative solutions to ensure the project stayed on program and at the highest quality standard. Solutions included; redesigning filtration pipe work as well as carrying out 10-months of extensive testing on the concrete pool shell. Shrinkage tests were also conducted using shrinkage cylinders onsite in the humid wet conditions.
Through Sunbuild’s own innovative testing techniques, these tests revealed changes needed to be made to the Australian Standards and will be reflected in future Australian Standards for concrete pool shells nationwide.
The project was delivered within 54 weeks, was within the tight budget parameters presented and was nominated in 2017/2018 Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards and won the highest accolade of the year, the President’s Award.
