DESCRIPTION:
This building is specially designed to cater for the handicapped and/or retarded student. It is designed to be independent from the remainder of the school with facilities, but is positioned so as to be integrated with the main school. The building is generally constructed of rendered masonry walls with a structural steel roof frame sheeted with metal cladding. The project included roads and carpark along with external play area.

30 November 1997 |
| This facility has similar features to a childcare facility including a hydrotherapy spa with an aqua lift transfer hoist. The completion date was extended by 2 weeks due to no lines being available at the Fire Brigade for the fire panel connection with the remainder relating to variations in the existing school.
The contract price was increased with variations to the other parts of the school like operable walls. |
During construction the certifier realised a conflict between fire egress and security for the children. Sunbuild worked with the client and suggested the use of automatic sliding doors with button activation to resolve the situation.
This was a good solution and far cheaper than other methods proposed by the client.
The sandpits needed to be enlarged, but with the same budget, so Sunbuild redesigned a simpler construction method, which achieved the client’s result. |
