This project had a high public profile due to the first arrival of the legendary “Ghan”.
The project was completed within the original 18-week construction period even though Sunbuild were faced with a severe wet season, which meant the last of the civil works and landscaping was performed in late December and over the Christmas Period.
The project value commenced at $2,248,000 with the final Contract Sum being $3,699,000. This is a significant increase in the project scope and associated co-ordination to have achieved in the 18 weeks. Variations included:
- Changing HV Supply for the train from aerial to in-ground. Sunbuild not only constructed but pushed through the design approval process with Power Water.
- Integration of the Larrakeyah people’s artwork. The Client engaged Jumbana Group to consult with the Larrakeyah people to come up with some concepts and areas they could integrate the work. Sunbuild was given the task of designing and implementing the artwork into the construction schedule, which required Sunbuild’s initiative to pursue structural changes, make recommendations, chase and source odd products and specialist tradesmen to implement the Larrakeyah people’s ideas.
- Construction of a vehicle unloading facility from scratch with only 4 weeks to go.
- Changing the Sewer System from a simple holding tank to a pump station. This change had a huge impact on the civil works up to the platform and landscaping to the area.
|
| The infrastructure to supply this building was not installed at the time of completion. Sunbuild used their initiative to provide water to the site, for irrigation and commissioning. No power, telephone or sewer was available beyond the boundaries to the site. We initiated temporary services to ensure practical completion and a Permit to Occupy could be achieved. |
