DESCRIPTION:
A single storey concrete slab, block and steel structure with metal clad roofing. This was a 1500m2 extension and refurbishment to the existing 2000m2 structure, which could not affect the sorting, or delivery of the mail. |
| Approved Completion Date: |
11 November 1996 |
| The extension was relatively a standard building but included dock levellers and extensions to the very high level of security. However, the refurbishment area contained asbestos and a Client who could not stop operations nor downsize the operation area. This was achieved by doing the work in Stages and very close liaison with the Client. The increase in the contract value was caused by the unknown condition of the existing building. After we opened it up for refurbishment we found major upgrading was required ie. a complete new roof. This project was delivered under an informal partnering arrangement plus full Quality Assurance. |
| The Client required the extensions to be completed first. This enabled staff to be temporarily relocated while Sunbuild renovated the existing facility. It soon became apparent that the new area was not large enough to carry out the daily delivery of mail. Sunbuild developed a temporary asbestos screen system, which enabled us to provide them with a staged renovation programme, which added no cost or time to the project, but allowed adequate room to continue the operation - a very high priority to our Client. |
